The White Rock Farmer's Market, which wound down Sunday, had a stellar 10th anniversary year, market director Helen Fathers said.

And one of its biggest successes was the chefs program, she added.

In the 12-week program, chefs from local restaurants and catering providers prepared dishes at each market, aimed at promoting local produce.

"The main premise was to highlight vendors at the market and the items they were selling; to invite local restaurants and chefs to use vendors' produce; and create a dish that people could enjoy at each market and put proceeds from it to a worthy cause," she said.

The program raised $1,400 through sale of chefs program dishes, which was turned over to the White Rock and South Surrey Foundation.

"And they donated it to the Women's Place hot lunch program," Fathers, a White Rock councillor, said.

She added that the program met its aim of creating dishes that were 90 per cent created from market vendors produce, barring condiments.

Among restaurants that participated were Uli's, Cielo's and the Boathouse, while Sheila Cox of Cielo's, who owns her own catering company, also participated solo.

"Patrons loved it," said Fathers.

"The dishes included everything from salmon and a grilled halibut with organic green salad, to eggs benedict and a home-made burger."

The Sunday morning market moved to Miramar Village this year from its previous location next to the White Rock Elks Club on George Street.

"We had a really good year – attendance was up 20 per cent," Fathers said.

"All of the staff and volunteers worked really hard."

Although the regular market, which runs from May, has wound down, the

organization will present two special winter markets on Sunday Nov. 8 and Sunday Dec. 6, Fathers added.

"They will be in the afternoon, 2-6 p.m. at the White Rock Community Centre, which will give people who attend church on Sunday mornings an extra opportunity to visit."
