Musical duo not singing the blues
Sam and Luke Remedios have won the right to share the stage with Canadian legends the Downchild Blues Band.
White Rock’s own dynamic blues brothers – Sam and Luke Remedios – have won the right to share the stage with Canadian legends the Downchild Blues Band, original inspiration for Dan Ackroyd and John Belushi’s Blues Brothers.
The Earl Marriott Secondary students won an Oct. 2 contest at the Blues Underground in Nanaimo, vying for a one-song live spot in Downchild’s Oct. 10 show at the city’s Port Theatre.
The show is part of a 40th anniversary cross-Canada tour by the veteran musicians, who seek to pass the torch on to the next generation of blues musicians.
Although the contest was aimed at solo blues artists aged 20 years and younger, the brothers entered as a duo, and got picked as finalists on the strength of one of their live videos.
The brothers – who were winners of the White Rock Blues Society’s first annual talent search in 2008 – won the Downchild appearance following a standout live performance in front of contest judges at the Blues Underground.
