Planning bylaw coming to council
Updated: September 17, 2009 3:49 PM
A Planning Procedures Bylaw that was circulated among city departments for review and comment last June will now be brought forward to White Rock council.
The bylaw – designed to introduce a consistent process for all planning and development applications in the city – was backed by the land use and planning committee meeting Monday.
It is designed to save council time by allowing members, under certain circumstances, to delegate development permit approvals to staff, and waive public hearings where a rezoning is in line with the OCP, and has not encountered significant public opposition.
The bylaw would standardize application documents and fees for development permits, temporary commercial-use permits, applications for subdivision of properties, applications to the Board of Variance, applications for amendments to the OCP and Zoning Bylaw, and applications for the issuance of tree management permits.
It would also cover the process for amending or discharging land use contracts, and provincial referrals requiring council resolution on liquor licence applications.
