South Surrey quilter Dougal Ann Walker will have some of her works on display Sept. 12 at Quilts at Tanglebank Gardens, a quilting show she helped found.

Walker (owner of The Freckles Collection), Sue Jensen (Quilted Escapes) and Cheryl Wall (Country Quilts) – who have been running their home-based businesses for the past several years – decided to organize a free quilt event to give local artists exposure.

“The whole idea of the show is to promote Canadian designers,” Walker said.

There will be more than 100 pieces on display, including some from Walker, whose patterns feature stitchery and smaller projects, including jackets and wall hangings.

Her patterns have been featured in national magazines and at the International Quilt Market, held twice a year in the U.S.

The first annual show will also be a launching point for Quilter’s Connection, the first magazine published in Canada for Canadian quilters.

Patterns, fabric and finished items will be available for purchase at the event.

While refreshments will be offered, people are welcome to bring their own to enjoy in the garden. The show takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 29985 Downes Rd. in Abbotsford, and is free to the public.
