Human ashes left on west beach a week ago have been returned to the trustee originally charged with disposing of them.
They "are to be disposed of in a dignified manner... an appropriate manner," said White Rock RCMP Sgt. Paul Fletcher.
"We were told they were going to be sent to a funeral home for appropriate (disposal)."
Police recovered three piles of ashes from the beach Aug. 17, after Sandy Streifel and her family discovered them while picking blackberries.
Streifel said at the time the piles were obviously fresh. She was also certain the remains were dumped, as opposed to scattered.
Her husband found a tag bearing the name of a crematorium and an ID number nearby.
Fletcher confirmed the trustee of the ashes was responsible for leaving them on the beach, which was apparently a desire of the deceased, he said.
Charges are not being considered.
