Owners of two greyhound puppies stolen overnight last weekend are hoping the public can help collar the thief.

Ranvir Nagra said the dogs, one of which belongs to his brother-in-law, are both registered and tattooed, and would be easily identified.

And while the brother and sister are from a high bloodline, Nagra said they're worth little to whoever took them. Racing them is popular in a limited circle, but generates minimal income, he said.

"They can run pretty expensive... (but) they're not really worth anything to anybody," Nagra said.

"There's no monetary reward."

The eight-month-old dogs were reported stolen from the 4100-block 152 Street property Nagra owns with his brother-in-law, Malkit Dhaliwal, at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

The pets' enclosure, located next to a blueberry field, was carefully cut to gain access.

"Where they cut it, they actually put it back so it looking like it wasn't cut," said Nagra.

He believes it was a targeted theft, and that whoever is responsible may try to leave the country with them.

Police have issued an alert to border and airport authorities to be on the lookout.

The dogs, named Jack and Jill, are described as black with white on their chests. The female also has white on her paws.

Nagra said Dhaliwal takes a couple months every fall to race his dogs in India, and would have taken the pups abroad next year. He is upset about the theft, said Nagra.

"He's been pretty lost. It's his passion for the last five years or so. He... spends a lot of time with them."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 604-599-0502.
