Not a hate crime

Swastikas, a gang signature and other graffiti strewn across a South Surrey neighbourhood last week is not being investigated as a hate crime, police say.

But officers are taking the mess discovered around Country Woods Drive seriously nonetheless.

Officers who were called Friday morning noted the scrawls on traffic signs, a post office super-mailbox and the garage door of a home in the 2800-block of Country Woods Drive (near 172 Street, between 26 and 29 avenues).

It’s believed the graffiti is related to a vehicle tag reported in the area a few days prior.

Neighbourhood Liaison Unit officers are investigating, along with Community Safety Officers, said Const. Kenn Meglic.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 604-599-0502.
