WEB EXTRA: Two face charges in cocaine bust

White Rock RCMP found cocaine when officers stopped a car near 16 Avenue and King George Highway early Saturday morning.

Police stopped the car around 2 a.m. because of a report of a drug deal, said White Rock RCMP Const. Glen Roberts.

A man and woman, 23 and 22, from White Rock and South Surrey, were arrested and face possession for the purpose of trafficking charges.

Last week, White Rock RCMP Sgt. Paul Fletcher had said an increase in complaints from the public about drug deals have prompted police to step up efforts.

Since June 8, “in the downtown area of White Rock, we have charged five different individuals with possession for the purpose of trafficking,” Fletcher said last week.

“To get five charges... for the purpose of selling it, that’s a fair number.”

Fletcher said all five were of adult males; they involved marijuana, crack or cocaine.

All of the arrests were in different areas of the city: one just west of Centennial Park, one in the 13900-block of Marine Drive, one at Johnston Road and Thrift Avenue, one at Johnston Road and Roper Avenue and one at Nichol Road and North Bluff.

The latter was in connection with what Fletcher described as a “dial-a-dope” operation.
