Lifeguard bitten by unleashed pit bull

An afternoon at work turned into two bite marks for one Crescent Beach lifeguard last Sunday.

The man was walking across the beach to another lifeguard station when a white, female pit bull, unleashed, emerged from a group of teenage girls and bit him on the leg and rear end, a witness says.

Crescent Beach resident Don Thompson said one of the girls then grabbed the dog, put a leash on her and took her away.

He said all the girls disappeared when MacDonald came to confront them.

“It was horrifying,” Thompson said of the incident.

“There are a lot of dogs on-leash and off-leash on the beach and on that walkway – and they’re not supposed to be.”

Both the City of Surrey bylaw office and the Surrey SPCA have confirmed reports of a pit bull attack on a Crescent Beach lifeguard last Sunday, but could not provide further details.

The lifeguard could not be reached for comment before press time Thursday.
