The Summer Sampler Series continues with a variety of short, fun and informative workshops.

On Thursday, Aug. 6 join your host Maggie Rodgers at the White Rock Community Centre from 10 a.m. to noon for an exciting and informative presentation on the magnificent gardens of the south of England.

Pull up a chair and enjoy the trip. Pre-registration is required. Call the Kent Street Activity Centre at 604-541-2231 for more details.

Do you enjoy hiking but don’t want to go alone?

Take a day and enjoy the alpine scenery and meadows in one of White Rock Leisure Services summer alpine weekday hikes.

We provide the transportation in a passenger van, and an experienced guide. Bring a bag lunch, good hiking footwear and daypack. These easy-pace hikes are on Wednesdays – up to 15 km and some elevation gain.

On Aug. 19, we are off to Manning Park, and the Aug.26 destination is Mt. Baker.

Bring a partner to the monthly cribbage tournament being held at the Kent Street Activity Centre this Friday, July 24 from 12:45-3:30 p.m. and test your skill and luck.

Regular bid whist and cribbage is played every Thursday at 1 p.m. in the auditorium.New players are always welcome.

The City of White Rock’s Waterfront Concert Series takes place on Saturdays and Sundays from 2-4 p.m. outside the White Rock Museum on the boardwalk.

On July 25, delight to the sounds of the Roaring Twenties Jazz Orchestra, and on July 26, experience a fresh sounding pop rock performance by Gray Leather Boots. For the full concert schedule, visit the website at www.city.whiterock.bc.ca

Why not enjoy a day out and leave the driving, parking and planning to us?

Travel in comfort in our new minibus to celebrate the arts at the 19th annual Harmony Arts Festival in West Vancouver.

The streets and parks are animated with music, dance, craft and visual arts presentations. Enjoy West Coast dining and a stunning view of Vancouver from the Saltaire Restaurant in Ambleside village.

After lunch, it is down to the waterfront where you’ll have time to visit the quaint galleries, craft market, art in the park display and walk the seawall.

There are still a few seats available – call the Kent Street office to register.

It may be summer, but the card playing doesn’t stop.

Contract bridge is offered at the White Rock Library on Tuesdays 1-3:45 p.m. At Centennial Park Leisure Centre, join in partner’s contract bridge on Fridays 7-9:30 p.m. or duplicate bridge on Wednesdays 1-4 p.m. The Kent Street Activity Centre hosts fun bridge on Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. and contract bridge on Sunday 1-4 p.m.

Just a reminder – the Kent Street Activity Centre is scheduled to be shutdown for maintenance from Saturday, July 25 to Monday, Aug. 3.

All activity groups and classes using the Kent Street facility are cancelled during the closure.

We re-open for business on Tuesday Aug. 4 at 8:30 a.m.
