Plenty of spirit, events for the taking in August

The Carpet Bowling group is still going strong through the summer and invites you to come out and join the fun and friendship of this skill-testing activity. Carpet bowlers meet Wednesday and Fridays 10 a.m. – noon. New players are always welcome.

n This B.C. Day long weekend, don’t miss the annual Spirit of the Sea Festival on the waterfront Aug. 1-3. Bring your grandchildren with their teddy bears to the Teddy Bears Picnic on Saturday, Aug. 2, between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Check out all the exciting things you can see and do! From the main stage entertainment, evening fireworks and the annual torchlight parade Sunday, the performances and activities are endless. For more information, visit www.spiritofthesea.ca

n Be a pet vet. White Rock Leisure Services is looking for volunteers to help at the Teddy Bear Picnic, part of the Spirit of the Sea Festival on Saturday, Aug. 2, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. We are seeking friendly and creative individuals to be “Teddy bear doctors” at the vet station. If you enjoy being around children, you will love this event! For more information about volunteering, call 604-541-2231.

n There is still space available on the Aug. 28 bus excursion to beautiful Point Roberts. Do you have memories of staying in summer homes or of Sunday afternoon family picnics in Point Roberts? Join us as we explore Point Roberts by coach – Boundary Bay, Whale Bay Village, the marina and Lighthouse Marine Park where we will enjoy a picnic lunch and whale watching from the shore. The tour will have an historical perspective and a touch of humour. Call 604-541-2231 to register or for more information.

n What are you doing on Friday, Aug. 16? If you have no plans and want to get out for the day, join us and have some fun on the Magical Mystery Tour – where the destination is part of the mystery. This van excursion will appeal to the participant looking for a more relaxing, yet fun-filled day of new experiences and entertaining surprises… we look forward to having you on board. For more information or to register, call the Kent Street Activity Centre at 604-541-2231.
