The new Surrey Writers School is offering workshops and courses this fall for new and intermediate writers.

Introduction to Creative Writing is for beginning writers and those who need a refresher.

The eight-week course (7-9 p.m. Sept. 23- Nov. 24 at the Whalley Library, 10347 135 St.) will cover basic elements of fiction, non-fiction, poetry and memoir writing, as well as explore marketing strategies.

South Surrey poet Heidi Greco will lead Shaping Better Poems: Working With a Group at the Community Arts Council of White Rock & District, 90-1959 152 St.

This six-week course (7-9:30 p.m. Sept. 28 - Nov. 9) challenges new and intermediate poets to write new poems, which each week will become the basis for in-class discussion.

In October, two one-day events are planned: Writing from Life (Oct. 10) and Writers’ Express (Nov. 14).

For more information on these courses, visit www.surreywritersschool.com or call Lois Peterson at 604-535-1601 (after Sept. 23).

To register for the September courses, contact Ed Griffin at ed@edgriffin.net, or 604-582-1171, or Greco at hgo@telus.net or by calling 604-536-8333.
