Entertainment will be the order of the day at a Five Corners Block Party Saturday, presented by the White Rock Business Improvement Association in conjunction with Tour de White Rock criterium.

Dynamic Vancouver entertainer Sibel Thrasher will be highlighted at 1:30 p.m. at the main stage at Johnston Road at Pacific Avenue.

The Cincinnati-born diva will bring her rhythm and blues, jazz and gospel sounds to the mix of musical performers featured from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the main stage.

Other acts will be featured at the ‘Prospect’ stage – Johnston Road and Prospect Avenue, by the clock tower – and in performance areas at the southwest side of Thrift Avenue and Johnston Road, by Tapestry Music and on Pacific Avenue across from Star of the Sea Hall.

Among the acts at the main stage and the street locations will be popular local musician Glen Pearson, the country-style of blues of David (Boxcar) Gates and the mainstream jazz of vibraphone wizard Marty Franklin and his trio.

Also featured will be the ‘sweet jazz’ quartet Apple Honey Daydreamers, featuring graduates from the community including drummer Rob Phillips, keyboardist Alex Clarke, trumpeter Steve An, and bassist Steve Dindo.

After the criterium race (4 p.m.) the block party will resume at 7 p.m. with a street dance featuring Louisiana-style favourites Mojo Zydeco.

For the event, which kicks off at 11 a.m., Johnston Road will be closed from the clock tower south, and Pacific Avenue will be closed from Five Corners west to Fir Street from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
