Perry Haddock

The Community Arts Council of White Rock and District Gallery Show presents Everywhere I Wander, paintings by Cloverdale-based landscape artist Perry Haddock, from July 9 to 31 at the gallery in Windsor Square, 90 1959 152 St.

The show’s title emphasizes Haddock’s love of travel and the painting experiences it offers. Just back from a month in Paris and Dubrovnik, he hopes to have some pieces in the show reflecting the latest trip, along with many local and across B.C. paintings.

A signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, Haddock works primarily in acrylic and watercolour, employing bold brushwork and colour. He often uses outdoor sketches as first drafts for studio work, but also enjoys finding fresh results in plein air painting at such locations as Tynehead Park and Crescent Beach.

Molenaar at Atrium

Current Atrium show at Jenkins Showler Gallery, 1539 Johnston Rd., features oil on canvas landscapes by Pieter Molenaar, until July 11.

Molenaar, who studied art in Amsterdam before coming to Canada in 1979, draws on memory, photographs and observation to create a blend of realism and impressionistic techniques in evocative landscapes often dominated by dramatic skies.

Molenaar’s show will be followed by acrylic abstracts by Chantal de Serres, running July 12-25.

A native of Verdun, Que., de Serres graduated from Concordia University with a Fine Arts degree in 1990.

Her art is a reflection of her inner self which she expresses through the movement and colour of her paintings.

Opening will be Sunday, July 12, 1-4 p.m.

Upcoming artists in the gallery’s Atrium series include Amanda Jones (July 26-Aug. 8), Dennis Magnusson (Aug. 9-22), and Lynn Onley (Aug. 23 - Sept. 5). For more information, visit www. jenkinsshowlergallery.com

Jordan Carrier

Lee Aaron

Tickets are now on sale for a concert by Canadian rock legend (and latter-day jazz/pop artist) Lee Aaron, Friday, July 31, 8 p.m. at Cascades Casino Summit Theatre, 20393 Fraser Hwy., Langley.

Aaron, a South Surrey resident, will be joined by special guest Doucette (‘Mama Let Him Play’).

Originally backup singer and keyboardist for a band named Lee Aaron in her home province of Ontario, she eventually became lead singer and adopted the name.

Her first album, The Lee Aaron Project, established her as a force on the Canadian rock scene, but her subsequent hard rock approach cemented her fame as the undisputed queen of Canadian metal, with such albums as Metal Queen (1985), Call Of The Wild (1985), Bodyrock (1989) and Some Girls Do (1991).

After moving to Vancouver in the early `90s, she took a long break from music, but returned, triumphantly re-invented as a jazz vocalist, with Slick Chick (2000). Beautiful Things (2004) extended her appeal with jazz-inflected pop originals, and her current music gives nods to both her hard rock past and the sophistication of her latter day persona.

Doucette, FM idol of the late ‘70s, continues to deliver his trademark slick guitar licks, and powerful original songs, with dedication and passion.

Advance tickets ($32.50 plus GST and service charges) are available from Casino Guest Services, 604-530-2211.
