Nine Peninsula youth were among 158 from across the Lower Mainland honoured last week with Bronze Level pins and certificates in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards program.

The program, for youth aged 14 to 25 years, encourages community service, adventure, skill development and physical recreation. Awards are bestowed for achievements at three levels: Bronze (for youth older than 14); Silver (for youth older than 15); and Gold (for youth older than 16).

Local teens celebrated at a ceremony Oct. 17 in Vancouver were Paul Wechselberger (Southridge School); Tia Ball, Liam Ross and Sidonie Ward (1st Semiahmoo Sea Scouts); Zachary Dallas, Eric MacKenzie, Andrew Nichol and Parker Simpson (6th Peace Arch Venturer Company); and Ashley Morin (independent).
