White Rock’s Sandra Alfonso – who earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology – has received Kwantlen’s President’s Outstanding Graduate Award.

Returning to post-secondary education after a 15-year absence, Alfonso achieved high academic standing, contributed to community services and volunteer work.

Having achieved the Dean’s Honour Roll six times, Alfonso now graduates with the president’s award, which is presented annually to students who have completed their study in one program, consistently shown outstanding ability in the field and contributed in a significant way to Kwantlen or community affairs.

“Thanks to the dedicated and caring Kwantlen faculty and the availability of support services such as the learning and counselling centres, I’ve been able to persevere through challenges and reach my personal and academic goals,” she said in a release.

Alfonso now plans to obtain a master’s degree and PhD in women’s studies.
