More than $35,000 was raised for the building of a new maternity ward in Peace Arch Hospital at the recent Close to Home Golf Invitational.
Held at Morgan Creek Golf Club, the event included a dinner program MCed by TV news anchor Chris Gailus, and featured panelists CKNW business analyst Michael Levy and Minister of Finance Colin Hansen, who discussed global and provincial economies.
Proceeds from the tournament – in its 12th year – benefited Peace Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation's $5.3-million Oh Baby campaign, which includes a maternity ward with eight single-family rooms and 50 per cent more space.
The current ward is at capacity, and, with 800 babies born at Peace Arch every year, expectant families can be sent as far away as Richmond and Burnaby to deliver.
The Oh Baby project is one of five in the $32-million Partners in Caring campaign.
