Bursary offered
Updated: August 11, 2009 9:15 AM
The Dr. Al Hogg Family Practice Legacy Fund bursary has been created to help attract physicians to White Rock and South Surrey.
The annual bursary – valued up to $3,000 – is designed to introduce much needed, new physicians to the area through a rotation in local family practices, as well as assist in recruiting family physicians to the Peninsula.
It is available to a second-year student in a Family Practice Residency Program at a Canadian medical school who is considering practicing family medicine in a community setting, particularly White Rock/South Surrey.
Some of the training opportunities offered in addition to office-based practice include managing acute care patients in Peace Arch Hospital, being involved with the maternity clinic, making home visits and providing palliative care.
The late Dr. Allan Hogg was instrumental in spearheading the construction of the first White Rock hospital, and the endowment honours and furthers his passion for local family-practice medicine.
The bursary is administered through Peace Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation.
The application deadline is Aug. 15.
