The City of Surrey is one step closer to winning up to $100,000 towards improvements to a sports or healthy living facility.
This week, Surrey-Panorama MLA Stephanie Cadieux presented Coun. Linda Hepner with an Olympic-themed package, an early-bird prize in the province's GamesTown 2010 competition.
The online contest aims to encourage individuals and businesses "to tell the world how they are making a difference in supporting sport, healthy living, sustainable development and the Olympic Games spirit by submitting stories to the website or making a healthy living pledge."
Three B.C. communities will be picked as the gold, silver and bronze GamesTowns and will receive up to $100,000 towards sports or healthy living facility improvements of their choosing. Along the way, prizes such as tickets to the Winter Games will be awarded.
The number of community members having made a healthy-living pledge will be considered when awarding the grand prizes.
Hepner, chairs the city’s 2010/Spirit of B.C. Committee.
