Wannabe thieves attempting to make off with a cache of cellphones from the South Surrey Future Shop were left empty-handed Monday, when their getaway vehicle got stuck on the business's front steps.
Police are looking for two suspects in connection with the early morning break-in at the 2267 160 St. store.
Alarms were triggered just before 1:30 a.m., when a Ford F350 was backed up the steps and through the store's plate-glass front doors. Police responding found the stuck truck abandoned, its engine still running.
Surveillance footage shows two males load a garbage can with cellphones and attempt to drive away. When that failed, they abandoned their booty and fled on foot.
Despite efforts including a police dog team, the perpetrators eluded capture.
Both suspects were wearing white shoes. One was in a grey hoodie and black pants; the other, a dark hoodie and tan pants.
Investigation has determined the truck was reported stolen from the auto mall at 3050 King George Hwy. just after 11 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 7). Its rear licence plate was reportedly stolen around 5 p.m. Nov. 8.
Anyone with information on the culprits involved is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
