Titans down Saints to open season

Having opened their season on a winning note, the Trinity Western University Titans will look for a victorious home debut.
The Titans, who play in the B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League, downed the host Selkirk Saints in Castlegar, 5-2 and 7-3.
And the same two teams will do battle as the Titans play their home opener — and Langley Events Centre debut — tonight at 7 p.m.
In the season opener, the teams traded goals in the first period, with the Titans' Andrew Heringer finishing off a nice play by Brendan Elenko to open the scoring.
The visitors took control in the middle stanza, as Matt Chaput scored twice for a two-goal lead.
Selkirk cut the lead in half early in the third, but Titans goalie J.P. Chapman shut the door the rest of the way.
Trevor Beaupre and Tyler Bates then closed out the scoring.
And the Titans were not content to earn just a split in their opening two games as when they hit the ice on Saturday, they pumped in four goals in the opening 20 minutes. Trevor Edwards and Heringer scored two apiece.
The Saints took advantage in the second to score the period's only two goals to get back in the game.
"We came out a little flat for the second but after a few stellar saves by J.P. (Chapman), the momentum swung back in our favour," said the Titans' Josh MacKnee.
Selkirk made it a one-goal game 25 seconds into the third.
But facing some adversity and tough times — the Saints dressed 20 players as opposed to the Titans' 14 — the visitors responded with three goals in two minutes.
Brendan Elenko, Matt Chaput and Josh Stephenson all found the back of the net to restore control.
