Locals make the grade

Five local basketball players have caught the eye of Basketball BC.
Walnut Grove Secondary’s Larry Blyth and Brookswood Secondary’s Nick Gudmondson have been invited to attend the 2009-10 Centre for Performance (CP), following a tryout at the Langley Events Centre on Sunday.
And invited to join the girls’ Centre for Performance, are a trio of Brookswood players, Zoe Haramboure, Sam Van Den Boogaard and Sydney Schepikoff.
The girls’ tryout was also held at the LEC on Saturday afternoon.
The Centre for Performance is an elite development program designed to teach players and coaches individual and team offensive fundamentals, and introduces aspects of sports science which are necessary to the development of elite level players and coaches.
The program, which was established eight years ago, is a key component of Canada Basketball’s national player and coach identification and development strategy.
It is for the top players in Grades 9-12.
