Two wins for TWU

Trinity Western's women's soccer team posted a pair of pre-season victories prior to embarking on a California road swing.
The team defeated the Seattle Pacific University Falcons 1-0 in a friendly on Thursday afternoon at Spartan Field with rookie midfielder Caitlin Haines scoring the lone goal for the defending CIS national champions.
The goal came in the fifth minute when Nikki Wright broke down the left side of the pitch and finding Daniela Gerig in the centre of the box.
Gerig's shot was blocked by a Falcons defender, but Haines found the rebound and buried the ball in the back of the net.
Goalkeepers Kristen Funk and Veronika Rogina split the duties in net and coach Graham Roxburgh was able to play his entire bench in the game.
The team followed that up with a 4-0 win over the Simon Fraser Clan on Saturday at Burnaby's Terry Fox Field.
Wright opened the scoring when she stole an errant pass and fired a quick shot to the far side.The SFU keeper was able to get a hand on the shot, but the ball managed to cross the line for the early lead.
The Spartans doubled their lead in the 30th minute when Gerig headed a Rebecca Ferguson corner kick off the crossbar and in.
Gerig struck again in the 62nd minute as she undressed an SFU defender and the goalkeeper before firing home her second of the afternoon.
Byrne closed out the scoring in the 87th minute when she beat the goalkeeper with a strike from just inside the 18-yard box.
The Spartans dominated in the game, out-shooting their hosts 10-4 and having a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
