Leading after three rounds, Sue Kim was unable to close out the victory, falling by one stroke at the 2009 Royale Cup Canadian women’s amateur championship.

“I didn’t play my best today, and I let my nerves get to me,” Kim said.

“I will take what I learned today, and use it (at my next event).”

Kim, a Langley golfer, had taken the lead during the third round of the four-day championship held at the Royal Oaks Estates and Golf Club in Moncton, N.B.

She took the lead after shooting a blazing round of 4-under par 68. She finished the round with five birdies and needed only 29 putts.

After shooting an opening round 71 and then a 70 on day two, Kim’s 68 gave her a two-stroke lead going into Friday’s final round.

But Jennifer Kirby shot a 1-under par 71 while Kim countered with a 2-over par 74 during Friday’s final round.

Kirby was 6-under for the tournament while Kim was 5-under.

Another local golfer, Jessica Wallace, finished tied for 13th. Wallace shot 78-74-71-71—294 to finish 6-over par.

Seventy-two golfers made the cut while 117 began the tournament.
