The Langley Blaze continue to hold onto first place as the B.C. Premier Baseball League hits the final few games of the regular season.

The U18 squad knocked off the Victoria Mariners 3-0 on Sunday afternoon before dropping the back-end of the doubleheader 5-4. Both games were played at Victoria's Henderson Park.

At 35-11, Langley remains one game ahead of second-place North Delta (34-12) and two ahead of White Rock (32-12).

In Sunday's opener, the team's needed extra innings as neither could manufacture a run through seven innings. In fact, it would take five extra innings before Langley scored three runs in the top of the 12th and then close the game out in the bottom half to win 3-0.

Alex Reid earned the win on the mound.

The victory was the team's third consecutive shutout.

In the rematch, the Blaze jumped ahead 1-0 in the third but Victoria struck for five runs in the fourth, ending a string of 30 consecutive scoreless innings.

Langley did battle back, scoring three runs in the top of the seventh, but ultimately coming up on the wrong end of a 5-4 score.
