Brett Lawrie belted a seventh-inning double and later scored, helping the World top the United States 7-5 on Sunday in St. Louis.

Lawrie, from Langley, was representing the World at Major League Baseball’s Futures Games, which was part of the all-star festivities.

Lawrie, a 2008 first round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers, was one of two Langley Blaze alumni in the game, as Tyson Gillies, who plays in the Seattle Mariners minor league system, was also selected to play for the World team.

Gillies had a base hit and also scored a run.

The U.S. had led 5-3 going into the seventh inning, but Lawrie’s lead-off double helped the World team rally for four runs and the victory.
