It was a nail-biter win that took Langely Ices U-16 soccer girls to two over times and then a shoot-out at the finals to take home gold from the Baker Blast Tournament in Bellingham, Washington.
There were 166 teams competing in the tourney. The Langley girls played a total of five games, three qualifying games and headed to the semi-finals and finals from June 26 to 28.
Winning their first two games, the Ices next played a team from Langley, Washington, and tied to advance to the semi-finals.
Winning the semi-finals, they replayed the Kaos for the final.
The final remained scoreless at the end and went into two five minute overtime halves.
Again, the score remained at 0.
A shootout determined the Langley FC Ices U16 girls as the champions after six rounds of shots. This tournament concluded the Ices season.
Head coach Aaron Wilms is credited with creating a very strong team by working hard with the girls and being an amazing example of encouragement and determination.
