Langley’s Matt Pope is off to the Vancouver Canucºks rookie camp.
Pope is going to GM Place this Sunday afternoon to register and meet up with his future teammates.
The Canucks are putting him up downtown for the week as he laces up for his first NHL rookie camp, said his mom Tracy.
Pope is eager to take to the ice after taking a few weeks off to recover from an injury he attempted to play through in the playoffs.
The 24-year-old, a product of the Langley Minor Hockey Association and former member of the junior A Langley Hornets, signed a two-way contract with the Vancouver Canucks two weeks ago.
Pope, a winger, played 54 games at the ECHL level, and finished with 30 goals and 33 assists. He was named to the rookie all-star team.
He split a dozen regular season games between Binghamton and with the Manitoba Moose (on an AHL tryout contract) and managed four goals and four assists.
He loves playing for the Moose and will be joined at rookie camp by a few other from the Manitoba franchise.
Pope will come back home to Langley on Friday, July 10.
Full training camp for the Canucks goes in September without Mattias Ohlund who signed a seven year contract with Tampa Bay Lighting over the weekend.
