Councillors, editors 'scream like guilty children'

Editor: Our mayor is under siege. Six Township councillors and newspaper editors are screaming like guilty children.

Rick Green had the temerity to point out as a private citizen to ALR staff that the “public process” surrounding the Mufford Overpass design and implementation was incomplete, manipulated, unfair, and deeply flawed. Further, he was correcting the information provided by the funding partners towards answering the ALC conditional support.

I believe our mayor’s position is that sober second thought and a fair process is necessary to stop our entitlement-oriented old guard from adding to the Township’s legacy of ill-conceived projects that put citizens’ interests on the bottom rung.

Do we want another 200 Street overpass, or more mystery real estate deals like the Bedford House and Walnut Grove swap meet?

Does anyone with an IQ bigger than a Ritz cracker think that there is a justifiable connection between a Mufford Overpass and a half-mile S-curve through Hudson Bay farmland that screams real estate rip-off?

Do you believe these six councillors’ allegation that the project has tens of thousands of supporters, when the vast majority at public hearings opposed it?

I believe our mayor recognizes the deep flaws in the sham process involved with the Mufford Overpass project. I believe his presentation is a bid for revisiting the process to correct the flaws.

Mayor Green’s record shows that he believes everyone has a right to their say and deserves to be treated fairly. Perhaps that unique quality in a politician should be respected, especially on a matter as important as this.

To the Township council members, I say this: You are duty bound to do the bidding of your constituents, not arrogantly dictate what that bidding should be.

To the newspaper editors everywhere — you have a right to your opinion — it’s your job. It’s not your job to be selective with the facts.

Bob Moats,
