Editor: Re: Rian Martin’s letter (The Times, Sept. 16).

It must be nice to have lived in Langley for only five years and think that you have all the answers. I have lived in Langley for 45 years and am still trying to figure out and understand some of the decisions made by our municipal council.

The “suspect farm land” he refers to happens to be a viable farm operation, and to suggest otherwise is insulting. The impact of this overpass is a detriment to many farms in this rural community.

Where are the tens of thousands of Langley residents who support this project? They are possibly a figment of someone’s overactive imagination. They were not visible at council meetings and open houses that I attended.

Just because there is $9 million from taxpayers up for grabs does not mean that we have to take it and spend it on an ill-conceived project. Remember, we have to pay this loan back.

Thanks to Mayor Rick Green, who stood by his election promise of protecting Langley’s farm land for our future generations.

Well done, Mayor Green.
