Come and check out interurban cars
Editor: As many people know, I have been quite involved in the restoration of Car 1225, a 1912 B.C. Electric Railway interurban car, for the past three years. The car barn where we are doing the work is located at 152 Street and 64 Avenue in Surrey. The interurban tram will be on the tracks between Sullivan Station and Cloverdale during the next summer.
Our other interurban car, 1304, which we just procured, will also be on display, and we are planning to begin restoring it as soon as we finish 1225.
To see the progress on our project, we are holding an open house on Sunday, July 19 from 12 noon until 4 p.m. A special feature also on display will be a very early electric car, that uses tiller steering. I haven’t been able to find out the make, but it is likely a Detroit or an Edison.
We have a very large parking area that will hold many cars, so I invite interested people to come and enjoy this historical spectacle. All vintage cars are especially welcome, and will be parked together as long as they arrive early.
There is no admission price. Hot dogs and refreshments will be available. Kids of all ages can enjoy a ride on our speeder which runs on a circular track around the car barn.
