A 28-year-old Langley man has died several hours after he was injured on a construction site in Willoughby.

The mishap occurred at around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday in the area of 70 Avenue and 208 Street, in the Milner Heights community where the construction of houses is booming.

Cpl. Holly Marks said that police were called to what was reported as a traffic accident involving a pedestrian.

When they arrived, investigators learned that a construction worker was in the box or on the tailgate of a pickup truck as the workers gathered their tools at the end of the day.

As the truck proceeded down the lane, the worker fell from the vehicle, striking his head on the ground, Marks said.

He was airlifted to hospital where he died several hours later.

Marks asked that anyone with information about the accident should call Langley RCMP at 604 532-3200.

WorkSafe BC is also investigating.
