City gets funds for 208 St. upgrade

It looks as though construction along 208 Street, from 48 Avenue to Fraser Highway, which has been ongoing for the past several months, is likely to carry on for several more.
That’s because the City has received stimulus grants from both the province and the federal government, which combined with municipal funds will provide more than $5 million to upgrade one of the City’s main north-south corridors.
Scheduled improvements include bi-directional bicycle lanes, selective road widening, pavement and pavement markings, traffic control including signals and sidewalk, as well as curb and gutter repairs as required.
The public will get the chance to view the design and offer feedback during an open house on Nov. 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Langley Senior Resources Centre, 20605 51B Ave.
“We are delighted to receive this infrastructure stimulus funding from the provincial and federal governments for much needed infrastructure upgrades and road improvements,” said City Mayor Peter Fassbender.
“Not only will this project create job opportunities, but it will also improve safety for motorists and cyclists, replacing aging infrastructure and meeting the demands from new growth within our community and the region.”
