Crash victim lucky to be alive
A 20-year-old Langley man is lucky to be alive but is likely facing impaired driving charges after police found him lying beside his burning car on Thanksgiving Day.
Township firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and get the man to safety. He was later airlifted to hospital where he remains with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Shortly before 4 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 12, Langley RCMP arrived to the scene in the 4500 block of 240 Street. There was damage to both the front end and rear right passenger side of the man’s vehicle.
It’s believed the vehicle left the roadway, struck a hydro pole, became airborne and struck a tree before bursting into flames.
Officers at the scene noted an odour of liquor coming from the injured driver just before he was being airlifted to hospital. At the hospital, police ordered samples of the driver’s blood.
Those samples have been sent to the lab for analysis to determine his blood alcohol content.
Police continue to investigate the collision itself and will recommend the appropriate charges once the lab results are made available. This crash is one of a number of impaired driving incidents over the long weekend, said police.
