A Langley City house, which was home to a marijuana grow operation was destroyed by fire on Friday morning.
City fire crews were called to the rental home at 196 Street and 46 Avenue around 6:30 a.m. to find the rental home engulfed in flames.
“The fire was already through the roof when we arrived,” said City fire chief Bruce Dundas.
Since there was no indication anyone was inside the structure, crews launched a “defensive fire attack” extinguishing the blaze from exterior only.
It took about 90 minutes to bring the fire under control.
“We’ve spoken to the homeowner, but we’ve been unable to contact the renters,” Dundas said.
The blaze resulted in a $200,000 to $300,000 loss, he estimated.
Langley RCMP are investigating.
