Langley Township firefighters from Willoughby, Walnut Grove and Murrayville responded to two fires at a house in the 7800 block of 208 Street last Wednesday and Thursday.

Township assistant fire chief Bruce Ferguson said both calls came in early in the morning.

“The first one came in yesterday morning at about 6 a.m.,” he said Thursday. “We were back there at quarter to five this morning.”

Ferguson said the fires may have been set deliberately.

“Both yesterday and today are suspected arsons,” he said.

Ferguson said RCMP are investigating as well, but the home was not used for growing marijuana.

“It’s not a grow-op,” he said. “There is illegal activity there.”

Langley RCMP said it appears no one was living in the house at the time. They investigated the house Wednesday morning and found evidence of drug trafficking. They obtained and executed a search warrant and continue to investigate both the fires and the drug trafficking.

The home is one of a number in the area that are rented out, while development plans for the area are prepared.
