Dropped call leads police to grow-op
A dropped emergency 911 call led Langley RCMP to a house where they stumbled across a marijuana grow operation.
The detachment’s drug squad seized 800 plants. The size of this seizure is “significant,” said spokesman Const. Amanda McGowan.
Incomplete 911 calls can occur when someone misdials an international phone number, or when a medical emergency interrupts the completion of the call, she said.
In any event, incomplete 911 calls are always followed up by police to confirm the safety and well-being of anyone in the building from which they are made.
“We treat these as a highest priority, because they are an unknown,” McGowan said.
The incident occurred at 8:45 p.m. on July 7 at a house in the 24300 block of 57 Avenue.
A man, believed to be a renter, answered the door when police called to confirm the well-being of anyone in the house.
Police found the marijuana plantation in the basement, obtained a search warrant and dismantled the grow operation.
A 32-year-old man from New York was arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. He is being held in police custody pending his appearance in court.
Because he is not a local man, police consider him a flight risk, McGowan said.
