The victim in Friday night's fatal shooting in Burnaby has been identified as 23-year-old Jonathan Alex Barber of Langley.

Investigators from the Integrated Homicide Team still haven't made any conclusive links to organized crime, drugs or other recent murders. However, police still believe the shooting wasn't random.

Barber isn't known to police.

The shooting took place around 10 p.m., when Barber's black SUV was shot at several times while he was driving down the 7000 block of Kingsway near 14th Avenue.

His vehicle smashed into the side of a building, crushing its front fender and shattering its windshield.

A 17-year-old Surrey girl travelling in another vehicle was also shot, but suffered non-life threatening injuries. It isn't known if she knew Barber or not.

The investigation focused on the large crime scene which spanned Kingsway from Edmonds Street to Ethyl Avenue. No further information is being released at this time, said IHIT spokesperson Cpl. Dale Carr.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Integrated Homicide Investigative Team at 1-877-543-9217 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
