Dejah Milne is a couragous nine-year-old boy who is battling cancer for the third time. Like his friend Emma Sheepwash, 6, he is determined to beat this disease.
While he battles in hospital, Emma and her family, along with their Walnut Grove neighbourhood, are putting on a bottle drive to help the Milne family out.
The bottle drive will be held at James Kennedy Elementary on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Dejah’s journey to remission will be a lengthy one, said Tracy Sheepwash, Emma’s mom.
“I met Dejah’s mom at the bottle drive for Emma. She was helping when her own boy was going through cancer. Now we want to unite and help the Milne family through this difficult time,” said Tracy.
Emma is excited that she gets to help at the bottle drive this time, said Tracy.
She was too weak to leave the hospital when the bottle drive was held for her.
Hundreds from the Walnut Grove community came out with thousands of cans and bottles, raising around $5,000 for the Sheepwash family.
Emma is in remission after her lengthy battle with Ewing’s Sarcoma.
“It was such a community effort, it really was amazing,” she said.
“We’re really hoping for that kind of community caring again,” she said. Volunteers are needed for the day of the bottle drive. Burgers and drinks will be served afterwards.
