Langley City’s collection of wooden sculptures is undergoing a bit of routine maintenance.

Heat, cold and regular old wear and tear have taken their toll on the statues carved by Hope artist Pete Ryan and installed several years ago.

Chips are being sanded out, cracks filled and the finish restored on the statues, which include a sculpture of James McMillan at Innes Corner Plaza, another depicting Kwantlen chief Whattlekainum, and one of a pair of voyageurs hoisting a canoe, which stands in front of City Hall.

“They’re just a bit weather-worn,” said Downtown Langley Merchants Association co-ordinator and Langley City councillor Teri James.

“The goal is to make them look like they did when they were installed.”
