If you know a teenager looking to be the next Spielberg or rising star, or who just wants to have fun and develop their creativity, here’s their chance, as Langley hosts its first professionally-taught Digital Film Boot Camp.

The film camp is co-hosted by Kwantlen Polytechnic University and Trinity Western University from July 6 to 17 at Kwantlen’s Langley Campus.

Students will have an opportunity to work with professional filmmakers as they learn the secrets of creating powerful concepts and scripts as well as the key skills and stages of professional quality filmmaking.

The Digital Film Boot Camp, run by artistic director Ned Vankevich, an award-winning film producer, writer and director with 20 years experience in the international film and television industry.

“We’re excited about the talented young people who are coming to the camp,” said Vankevich.

“We want to help students develop their talent and catch the vision of just how powerful, well-done media can be and the impact we can have on the culture.”

The Digital Film Boot camp models itself on professional production programs as it covers the key elements of pre-production, production, and post-production. The two-week camp costs $420.

The Film Boot Camp will provide all the tools needed to produce a film with everything from professional Sony and Canon cameras, and state of the art computer editing labs using Final Cut Pro, Adobe, and Logic software.

Students can choose to make short narrative, experimental, and/or documentary films, as well as music videos, and “audio-video poems.” In addition to creating great visuals, the boot camp will also focus on the importance of sound and allow students to create original music and rich sound designs. Attention will also be given to creating graphics and titling.

The Digital Film Boot Camp will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 6-17.

Boot Camp registration deadline is today (July 3).
