Travis Rutz’ friends and family are getting together to host a fundraiser Saturday, as the race car driver battles back from some serious injuries suffered in September.
The Langley Events Centre is hosting Travis Rutz: Back to his Rutz Fundraising Event from 3 to 11 p.m.
The original 450 tickets for the dinner have already sold out, but with interest still high in attending, organizers teamed with the LEC to create a new phase of tickets, whereas ticket buyers receive $10 off at the concession instead of the pasta dinner.
The tickets are $25 or $20 for those under age 12.
The festivities include a live auction, a silent auction, numerous raffles, the Langley Chiefs hockey game and local band OS5. Proceeds from the 50-50 draw will also go towards fundraising for Rutz.
Canadian Kettle Korn Extreme will also be on hand and donating their proceeds to the Rutz family.Donations and/or auction items are also being accepted and can be dropped off at Harding Forklift Services (18623 96 Ave.) in Port Kells, or people can contact Tyson Cross at crossmotorsports@hotmail.com.
Rutz, 21, suffered serious head injuries when his sprint car crashed at Terre Haute Speedway in Indiana in late September. He was competing in an All Star Circuit of Champions race.
After spending the next month at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Rutz has now been transferred to Langley Memorial Hospital.
Rutz, a D.W. Poppy graduate, was a long-time member of the Langley Quarter Midget Racing Association.
