Perhaps the most recognizable Canuck of all time is coming to Langley.
Trevor Linden, who had his jersey retired by the Vancouver Canucks last December, will be the guest of honour at the third annual PuCKS Hockey Heroes Champagne Dinner in Langley on Nov. 25.
Proceeds from the event will go to the PuCKS (Promoting Community through Kids in Sport) program.
“Trevor Linden is a community hero, he is a hockey hero with class,” said Connie Klimek, the executive director for PuCKS.
“He is a giver, a role model that we want the kids to aspire to be, he is a selfless guy,” Klimek said.
Traditionally, PuCKS has held the gala dinner in the spring. This is the third year the fundraiser is being held. Gordie Howe was the guest of honour the first year, and Paul Rosen, Ryan Walter and Garry Unger headlined the 2008 event.
This year’s dinner was moved to November so that it could be held in the banquet hall at the Langley Events Centre.
“We wanted to come in with a big splash and with someone of (Linden’s) presence,” Klimek said.
PuCKS, which was founded by Klimek in 2005, helps give all children, regardless of financial limitations or physical disabilities, a chance to play.
The program is aimed at strengthening communities though providing kids opportunities to play and learn.
Tickets, which are available at www.langleytickets.com, are selling for $150 for one ticket or a table of eight for $1,000, which works out to $125 per ticket.
