The Chiefs' weekend started on Thursday night at the Langley Events Centre with the Grizzlies leading 2-1 at the end of the first period. Victoria got three in a row in the second period, including two on the powerplay from Brad Pawlowski, but nearing the end of the frame Beck and Roy cut the lead to just two goals.
The real fireworks began when seven goals were scored between both clubs in the third, with the Grizzlies getting five of the seven markers en route to a big 10-5 win.
Colton Beck stayed red hot fresh off a 5-point night on Tuesday in Westside with a hat trick of his own, including an assist giving him nine points in his last two games.
The Langley Chiefs were in Merritt on Friday night, but didn’t have the best of starts. The Centennials' Jordan Soquila had the only goal of the first period.
The second period was a total different story for Langley as Brandon Thompson and Tim Daly both had markers, handing the Chiefs a 2-1 lead going into the last period of play.
After trading chances in the third period, it was Dennis Robertson capping off a 3-point night with a nice shot in the slot putting the Chiefs up by two with time running out. However, Dustin Johnson made it 3-2 with less than five minutes to play on a nice backhand shot, top corner. With 1:18 left in regulation the Cents tied it up. Things did not last long in overtime as Chang banged home the loose puck in the crease just 12 seconds into OT for his first BCHL goal. Walsh got charged with an overtime loss, while Holowenko got the win for Merritt, who faced over 40 shots. Langley’s Dennis Robertson was named second star of the game.
The third period in Saturday night's game at the Langley Events Centre was the difference for the Langley Chiefs in getting the win against Merritt. It started slow with a quick strike from Colton Sobchak just 1:40 into the game, but Langley got two huge slump buster goals from Marcus Watson and Kody Dhaliwal to grab hold of the lead heading into the second period.
The Centennials flipped the script and got two markers of their own in the second period, but a late goal from Brandon Thompson knotted things up at 3-3, setting the stage for the red hot Colton Beck. Beck exploded for two goals in the third frame and the Chiefs picked up their 14th win of the season. Andrew Walsh picked up the win for Langley, while Cole Holowenko was charged with the loss, facing 33 shots. The Chiefs first star went to Colten Beck, and second to Jordan Sims.
Beck was named BCHL’s player of the week after putting away seven goals and acquiring 13 points over four games. This now puts Beck eighth in scoring in the BCHL and number one for the Langley Chiefs.
Up next for the Chiefs is a late night start on Nov. 19 at 8:30 p.m. vs. the Westside Warriors, then two more home games at the Langley Events Centre at 7 p.m.; Friday vs. the Burnaby Bulldogs, and Saturday vs. the Vernon Vipers.
