Fort Langley’s Sarah Pucek returned to the Emerald Queen Saturday to rock star status.
The crowd went wild when she entered the hall in her walk to the boxing ring where she does business. Her ring music, “Get it On” by T-Rex blasting in the background, set the tone for what was to come.
In a boxing event that featured high profile Russian fighters this 22-year-old Fort Langley girl was about to steal the show.
Her rematch with Tammie Johnson of nearby Renton, Washington had been elevated to the semi main event. The two fought six months ago and the outcome was a majority draw. This fight was a showcase for Pucek to both box and brawl and she did both. Johnson is a tough competitor, a ranked fighter who never takes a step back.
Pucek, who weighed 133, had two much speed and diversity for Johnson, who weighed 135. Johnson was just coming of a win over Rita Figueroa who was 10-0-1 when they fought.
The scoring was mixed; one judge giving all the rounds to Pucek and one judge had Johnson winning a round. One judge had the fight for Johnson. Fightnews had the fight a shut-out for Pucek.
Pucek was happy to win the rematch; she thanked Brian Halquist Promotions and the Emerald Queen for having her on the card.
“Tammie is tough and the toughest fighter I have ever fought as a pro,” said Pucek.
What’s next for Pucek? The Battle of the Boat Boxing series is having their 75th show January 9 and they have invited Pucek back, says manager/trainer Dave Allison.
"I am working on a fight with Brooke Dierdorff, the WBC international champion. We want to get back to fighting at our own weight division, we have been above 126lb for too long. We are also working on a show we hope can happen in Langley at the Coast Convention Centre. We need the City of Langley to establish a boxing commission. We have done everything to encourage a commission. Sarah would love to fight at home."
Sarah Pucek stays undefeated at 4-0-1 and is looking for a title opportunity sometime next year. Meanwhile she needs to stay busy and keep winning.
