Kodiaks Back on Top

The Aldergrove Kodiaks were back in good form Wednesday night, overpowering the Mission Icebreakers to a 5-0 shutout.

The win puts the Kodiaks back on top of the Brittain conference with 26 points in 19 games, although the Ridge Meadows Flames only trail by a point with a game in hand.

Over in the Shaw conference, however, the Richmond Sockeyes lead the league with 30 points after 20 games, followed by the North Delta Devils at 28 after 17 and the Grandview Steelers at 25 after 18.

The Kodiaks dominated the game from the first period, outshooting the Icebreakers in each period for a game end tally of 42 to 23. But the Icebreakers deflected the shots until the second period, when the Kodiaks starting hitting the back of the net. Goal scorers were at 4:12 on a power play by Keegan Bruce from Travis Gorman and Emanuel Haider, at 10:45 by Thomas Hardy from Emanuel Haider and Adam Rossignol and at 16:26 by Adam Rossignol from Thomas Hardy and Joshua Hansen.

The Icebreakers had a five-on-three opportunity midway through the second after Cody Rowand and Joshua Hansen were both doing time in the penalty box, but the Kodiaks rallied to kill the penalties and goalie Riley Carriere kept the shots at bay, earning a well-deserved first star for the game.

The Icebreakers served all the third period penalty time, allowing the Kodiaks two more goals on power plays. Scorers were at 11:15 by Keegan Bruce from Chris Price and Brandon Long, and at 18:02 by Brandon Long from Matthew Malenstyn and Mike Phillipson.

Second and third game stars were Thomas Hardy and Keegan Bruce.

The Kodiaks get a break this week, with their next tilt set for Wednesday at Aldergrove Arena versus Richmond Sockeyes. That will be followed by two away games on the weekend, Nov. 13 at Ridge Meadows and Nov. 15 at Mission.
