The Aldergrove Kodiaks had a disastrous night Friday away at the Abbotsford Pilots, losing 8-3 in a last period that fell apart after coaches Rick Harkins and Mike Thompson were ejected by the referee for strongly disagreeing with the calls.
The night started well with Kodiaks' scoring at 7:45 on a power play in the first by Emanuel Haider from Travis Gorman and Chris Price. The Pilots answered at 8:47 but Colton Precourt scored another at 10:37, from Caleb Staniland and Mike Phillipson to close the first at 2-1.
The Pilots netted two more in the second but Mike Phillipson evened it up at 18:20, from Caleb Staniland and Colton Precourt.
However, all the scoring in the third came from the Pilots, and all on power plays as the Kodiaks racked up an extraordinary amount of penalties. Without their coaches the Kodiaks simply lost their self-discipline in the late going. Aldergrove finished with 174 minutes in penalties, compared to 43 for the Pilots.
It was their third loss in a row and leaves the Kodiaks at 24 points in the season, with 12 wins and five losses. The North Delta Devils have pulled ahead of the Kodiaks for the first time this season with 26 points after 15 games.
