The Thompson River University WolfPack found their offensive groove in their match up against the Trinity Western University Titans hockey on Friday night at the Langley Event Centre, winning 12 to five.

Right off the bat the Wolf Pack dominated the game, out-shooting the Titans 25 to seven in the first period. Following the quick early goals of TRU the Titans managed a small comeback, ending the period five to two.

The second period brought some penalty trouble and a few momentum swings. It was looking hopeful for the Titans when again the Wolf Pack showed their stuff. Titans gained somewhat in shots with 13 for TWU and 17 for TRU, but as assistant Coach Lindsay Curtis of the Titans said after missing a number of games: “This is not the same team that started the season, they now think they can hang on and make the better play. Simple hockey wins games at this level.”

The game finished with only 35 shots for the Titans to TRU’s 52. Coach Lowdermilk of the Titans said, “All that we had worked for by doing the little things is now back to the cutting room floor to find the parts we lost. I know I wouldn’t want to be at practice Monday.”

Game stars were Kevin Sparling of Ft. Saint John, who had a hat trick; Jassi Sanga of Kamloops, who had three points for TRU and Pete Masterton of Fort Langley for TWU who had three points. Andrew Heringer also netted two for the Titans and Josh MacKnee and Craig MacDermott each had one.

The Titans' next and even bigger challenge comes this weekend when they play the dominant Simon Fraser University out on their home territory Friday, Oct 30. SFU is currently in first place, being undefeated in league play.

Currently second in the league, the Titans' next few games will be vital in setting up the remainder of the season with SFU next and then a road trip when they will have a double header against the TRU Wolf Pack.
