Aldergrove’s top women’s soccer team will be firing up the barbecue at this week’s home game to help a teammate who suddenly lost her husband two weeks ago.

The fundraiser, sponsored by Aldergrove United Soccer Club, is for the trust fund of Tammy Grimes and family.

Her husband, Dr. Michael Allen Grimes, was a professor at Washington State University. He had collapsed at work and shortly after arriving at hospital died due to an aneurysm.

He leaves behind his wife Tammy and three children, aged seven, five and two.

Aldergrove United president Hilary MacRoberts said the Aldergrove Sliders Women’s Select team was devastated by the news and cancelled last weekend’s game out of respect.

“Most of the Sliders are young moms like Tammy,” said MacRoberts.

The team, presently third in their division, will be facing Surdel FC at noon Sunday at Aldergrove Athletic Park. The barbecue begins at the same time with all funds going to the Grimes family trust.

The Sliders have only lost one game in four years, and moved from Division 2 to the First Division and now the Selects Division. Their goal is to become a Premier team.
