In a battle of first versus worst, it was the Aldergrove Kodiaks pulling out another victory, their eighth straight to open the Pacific International Junior Hockey League season.
Kodiaks' Keegan Bruce scored a pair of third-period goals, the second into an empty net, to snap a 3-3 tie as the Kodiaks went into Port Moody and knocked off the Black Panthers 5-3 on Saturday night. Bruce also had an assist to finish with three points.
With his two goals and three points, Bruce is tied for the league lead with seven goals and is third in points with a dozen.
Aldergrove leads the junior B.C. PIJHL with an 8-0-0 record while Port Moody fell to 1-8-0.
The teams traded goals in the first period with Dylan Friel opening the score for the hosts before Jordan Pughe struck on the power-play.
Brandon Millin restored the Port Moody advantage early in the second, but Caleb Staniland and Colton Precourt tallied back for the Kodiaks for a 3-2 advantage.
However, Millin scored in the final minute of the frame to knot things up heading into the third period.
Aldergrove out-shot Port Moody 36-31 as keeper Evan Thomas picked up his fifth win of the season.
The Kodiaks will look to close out the month of September with their perfect record intact as they host the North Delta Devils (5-1-0) on Wednesday night (Sept. 30) at the Aldergrove Arena.
Game time is 7:15 p.m.
